NUEVA YORK – Las agencias de las Naciones Unidas han anunciado su firme apoyo a una coalición internacional con el objetivo de mejorar rápidamente la nutrición, la salud y la educación de los niños y las niñas en edad escolar en todo el mundo tras el cierre de escuelas provocado por la pandemia.
ROMA – El actor y director Daniel Brühl, nominado al Globo de Oro, fue nombrado hoy Embajador de Buena Voluntad del Programa Mundial de Alimentos de las Naciones Unidas (WFP, por sus siglas en inglés). A medida que el conflicto, el cambio climático y el impacto de la pandemia aumentan la inseguridad alimentaria mundial, Brühl se une a la organización humanitaria más grande del mundo en su misión de lograr un mundo con Hambre Cero.
ROMA –El Programa Mundial de Alimentos de las Naciones Unidas (WFP, por sus siglas en inglés) advirtió hoy que la cantidad de personas en inseguridad alimentaria aguda (emergencia o peor) en 43 países ha aumentado a 45 millones, a medida que el hambre se dispara en todo el mundo. Esta cifra ha aumentado de 42 millones a principios de año y 27 millones en 2019.
CIUDAD DE PANAMÁ – El mundo se enfrenta a un aumento exponencial del hambre debido a la crisis climática si no se toman con urgencia las acciones globales que ayuden a las comunidades a adaptarse a los choques y tensiones climáticas, advirtió el Programa Mundial de Alimentos de las Naciones Unidas (WFP, por sus siglas en inglés) previo al Día Mundial de la Alimentación.
IZALCO – El Gobierno de los Estados Unidos, a través de la Agencia de los Estados Unidos para el Desarrollo Internacional (USAID), y el Programa Mundial de Alimentos (WFP) comunicaron un programa de US$7 millones para brindar ayuda alimentaria a más de 60,000 personas afectadas por los daños causados por las emergencias climáticas del país y por la pandemia de la COVID-19.
CIUDAD DE PANAMÁ – Más de 30 mil personas que fueron afectadas por el paso de los huracanes Eta e Iota en Guatemala y Honduras recibieron asistencia alimentaria del Programa Mundial de Alimentos (WFP, por sus siglas en inglés) gracias al apoyo financiero de la Unión Europea.
PUERTO PRÍNCIPE –Luego de ser golpeados por múltiples crisis en los últimos años, los haitianos que sobrevivieron al reciente terremoto de magnitud 7,2 se enfrentan ahora a la pérdida de sus casas, de sus medios de vida y al acceso limitado o nulo a los alimentos. El Programa Mundial de Alimentos de las Naciones Unidas (WFP, por sus siglas en inglés) está aumentando su apoyo ya en marcha para los haitianos desesperados que padecen inseguridad alimentaria en el área y trabaja con el gobierno y sus socios para brindar apoyo a aquellos recientemente afectados.
Es probable que los conflictos, la COVID-19 y la crisis climática provoquen un aumento de los niveles de inseguridad alimentaria en 23 lugares críticos con respecto al hambre, según un nuevo informe.
Roma - El hambre mundial empeoró de forma espectacular en 2020, según informaron hoy las Naciones Unidas, y es probable que ello se deba en gran parte a la repercusión de la enfermedad por coronavirus (COVID-19). Aunque todavía no se ha cartografiado por completo el impacto de la pandemia*, en un informe preparado por varios organismos se estima que el año pasado estaba subalimentada cerca de la décima parte de la población mundial, lo cual puede suponer hasta 811 millones de personas. La cifra es indicio de que será preciso un esfuerzo tremendo para que el mundo cumpla su promesa de poner fin al hambre para 2030.

AMBOVOMBE, MADAGASCAR - El Director Ejecutivo del Programa Mundial de Alimentos (WFP, por sus siglas en inglés), David Beasley, lanzó un llamado urgente al mundo para tomar acción tras haber sido testigo de la crisis invisible que envuelve al sur de Madagascar, en donde comunidades enteras están al borde de la inanición.
ROMA – Millones de refugiados enfrentan un futuro de incertidumbre y hambre ya que los efectos de la pandemia en los presupuestos de ayuda se están provocando la escasez de fondos para las operaciones de emergencia, advirtió el Programa Mundial de Alimentos de las Naciones Unidas (WFP, por sus siglas en inglés) antes del Día Mundial del Refugiado.
Las agencias realizarán tres diálogos en América Latina y el Caribe para buscar posturas comunes sobre desarrollo rural, agricultura resiliente al clima, alimentación escolar, comercio internacional, innovación y tecnología, y financiamiento al desarrollo.
Los conflictos, las conmociones económicas —en particular debido a la COVID-19 y a las condiciones meteorológicas extremas— abocaron al menos a 155 millones de personas a la inseguridad alimentaria aguda en 2020

Las operaciones del WFP en Venezuela y en todo el mundo se guían por los principios humanitarios de humanidad, neutralidad, imparcialidad e independencia operativa.
ROMA – La visita a Centroamérica del Director Ejecutivo del WFP, David Beasley, renueva el compromiso del Programa Mundial de Alimentos (WFP) de trabajar con comunidades vulnerables, ofreciéndoles medios de vida sostenibles y seguridad alimentaria en sus lugares de origen, dándoles motivos para quedarse en casa y así reducir la migración. ROMA – La pandemia de la COVID-19 amenaza con revertir una década de avances logrados gracias a los esfuerzos globales para proporcionar alimentos nutritivos a los niños y niñas más vulnerables del mundo a través de una comida diaria gratuita en la escuela, dijo el Programa Mundial de Alimentos de las Naciones Unidas (WFP, por sus siglas en inglés) en un informe publicado hoy.
ROMA - La inseguridad alimentaria aguda en El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras y Nicaragua se ha multiplicado casi por cuatro en los últimos dos años - de 2,2 millones de personas en 2018 a cerca de 8 millones de personas en 2021 - como resultado de la crisis económica provocada por la COVID-19 y años de eventos climáticos extremos. De esta cifra, 1,7 millones de personas se encuentran en la categoría de "emergencia" de inseguridad alimentaria y necesitan asistencia alimentaria urgente.
ROMA - El Programa Mundial de Alimentos de las Naciones Unidas (WFP, por sus siglas en inglés) ha expresado su más sentido pésame y condolencias a los familiares, colegas y amigos de tres personas asesinadas hoy en un ataque a una delegación que viajaba en una visita de campo en el este de la República Democrática del Congo (RDC).
Las comidas escolares, que para muchos niños y niñas son la única fuente de nutrición diaria, deben ser la prioridad en los planes de reapertura de las escuelas.
