— ¿Qué es capital semilla? — Dinero para comprar las gallinas, los alimentos y adecuarles un espacio.
— ¡Entonces pidamos un préstamo en el banco!
“Muchos de los países más frágiles del mundo, asolados por conflictos, inestabilidad y pobreza, son los más afectados por el cambio climático. La crisis climática no tiene por qué ser una crisis del hambre, pero eso es exactamente lo que está sucediendo”, afirmó la directora ejecutiva de WFP, Cindy McCain.
Contar con el título de propiedad de la tierra es un importante escalón para mejorar la dignidad humana, empujar el desarrollo económico más inclusivo y cerrar las brechas de género.

Mientras me preparo para salir de mi casa para ir a trabajar, a menudo pienso qué es lo que nos hace humanitarios. La emergencia COVID-19 le ha dado una vuelta a mi vida.
Cuando 17 mujeres, entre ellas, Estafany y Mayra, comenzaron las operaciones de la empresa Sorgovita en 2013 estaban entusiasmadas por las expectativas de éxito de este emprendimiento único.
Esta semana, los jefes de Estado y de Gobierno del Caribe y del Pacífico se reunieron con la delegación de WFP –encabezada por su directora ejecutiva, Cindy McCain– para recalcar la necesidad de abordar las amenazas existenciales que enfrentan los estados insulares y aprovechar las oportunidades para desarrollo resiliente y sostenible en la región.
La Encuesta sobre seguridad alimentaria y medios de vida del Caribe, realizada conjuntamente por el Programa Mundial de Alimentos de las Naciones Unidas (WFP) y la Comunidad del Caribe (CARICOM), encontró que se estima que el 43 % de la población (o tres millones de personas) padece inseguridad alimentaria en 22 países y territorios.
