Alvin Douglas se quedó sin hogar cuando el huracán Beryl, de categoría 4, azotó el Caribe a principios de julio. «A mucha gente le pilló desprevenida porque subestimamos el boletín (de alerta), no nos lo tomamos realmente en serio», dice Douglas, residente en Union Island, en San Vicente y las Granadinas.
A medida que el conflicto se intensifica, los civiles, incluidos los niños y las familias vulnerables, enfrentan desafíos cada vez mayores para acceder a suministros alimentarios esenciales, con redes de distribución de alimentos interrumpidas y producción de alimentos gravemente obstaculizada por las hostilidades.
