El PMA comenzó a distribuir alimentos el 8 de octubre en la ciudad de Jérémie, situada en el suroeste del país, donde se han registrado el mayor número de muertes.
Conocí al agricultor José Cirilo Mendoza durante una reciente misión para documentar los efectos de cinco años consecutivos de sequía en Centroamérica en una área conocida como el ‘Corredor Seco', un desastre silencioso que afecta a más de 2 millones de personas entre Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua y El Salvador.

ERBIL – El Programa Mundial de Alimentos de las Naciones Unidas (WFP por sus siglas en inglés) ha prestado asistencia alimentaria urgente a más de 100.000 personas que huyen del conflicto en Mosul, incluyendo la distribución realizada este domingo a 25.000 personas en Gogjali, el primer barrio liberado de la ciudad de Mosul.
La contribución prioriza la atención a través de asistencias mensuales para personas vulnerables que se quedan en Ecuador, entrega de cupones canjeables por alimentos en puntos fronterizos y el apoyo a comedores y casas de acogida.
Al evento, que se llevó a cabo del 20 al 24 de mayo y que fue organizado por el Centro de Excelencia contra el Hambre del Programa Mundial de Alimentos y el Foro Global de Nutrición Infantil, en co patrocinio con el Gobierno del Brasil, asistieron los representantes de 38 países y más de 20 ministros de los sectores de Educación, Agricultura y Salud.
