Las personas vulnerables, entre ellas mujeres, niños y ancianos, se llevan la peor parte de un conflicto extremadamente violento en el que decenas de grupos armados se disputan el territorio.
En los estados de Borno, Yobe y Adamawa en el noreste de Nigeria, el conflicto está afectando las vidas y los medios de subsistencia de millones de personas. 4,4 millones de personas se enfrentan al hambre aguda y 320.000 niños sufren desnutrición aguda.
Luego de los huracanes Eta e Iota en 2020, el Programa Mundial de Alimentos (WFP, por sus siglas en inglés), con apoyo del Gobierno de Canadá, distribuyó alimentos en la comunidad de Nueva Armenia, Honduras.
WFP se está movilizando rápidamente para ampliar la asistencia dentro de Gaza una vez que se garantice el acceso seguro. Nuestra flota de camiones está esperando en el cruce de Rafah, cargados con alimentos destinados a familias en refugios y hogares en toda Gaza, y harina de trigo para que las panaderías reanuden sus operaciones.
Mientras lee esto, 42,3 millones de personas en todo el mundo se encuentran al borde de la hambruna, mientras los conflictos, el cambio climático y la inestabilidad económica global se juntan para crear crisis de hambre en países de todo el mundo.
Aunque se ha avanzado en la acción colectiva para hacer frente a la inseguridad alimentaria, la evaluación realizada a finales de 2023 revela que la mitad de los hogares colombianos se encuentran en una situación de seguridad alimentaria marginal y podrían caer en inseguridad alimentaria por factores coyunturales, entre ellos el fenómeno de El Niño y de La Niña que generan variaciones en los cauce
La pausa de siete días en los combates permitió al Programa Mundial de Alimentos (WFP, por sus siglas en inglés) de las Naciones Unidas y a nuestros socios cierta seguridad para ampliar las operaciones de ayuda.
