“Conocí a mujeres, niños y niñas que se aferraban a sus vidas, que tenían que caminar horas para llegar a nuestros puntos de distribución de alimentos. Estos fueron los que estaban lo suficientemente sanos para lograrlo”, dijo Beasley, desde un centro de nutrición en la región.
“Ha habido sequías consecutivas en Madagascar que han llevado a las comunidades al borde mismo de la inanición.
A pesar de los esfuerzos por priorizar las compras de alimentos de productores locales, WFP está preocupado de que sus reservas de alimentos corran el riesgo de agotarse para finales de abril. WFP solo tiene suficiente comida en el país para alimentar a 175,000 personas durante un mes.
“WFP agradece a todas las partes por brindar oportunidades a los niños en Venezuela. Podemos y haremos mucho más por las personas en el país”, dijo Beasley.
Tras el terremoto de magnitud 6,3 que sacudió la provincia de Herat, en el oeste de Afganistán, el sábado 7 de octubre, el Programa Mundial de Alimentos (WFP) está sobre el terreno prestando ayuda a los supervivientes.
