El Programa Mundial de Alimentos (WFP, por sus siglas en inglés) ha iniciado la entrega de alimentos destinados a cientos de miles de personas hambrientas en Sudán con la esperanza de expandirse a más áreas a pesar de enfrentar enormes desafíos de seguridad, incluyendo los fuertes combates que se están produciendo en algunas partes del país.
Este apoyo de 1.2 millones de euros, proporcionados a través del Dirección General de Protección Civil y Operaciones de Ayuda Humanitaria Europeas (ECHO), permitió al WFP brindar asistencia alimentaria a través de tarjetas canjeables por alimentos (Honduras) y transferencias de efectivo no condicionadas (Guatemala) entre los afectados por el impacto de dos huracanes en dos semanas.
