La decisión de interrumpir las entregas en el norte de la Franja de Gaza no se ha tomado a la ligera, ya que sabemos que significa que la situación allí se deteriorará aún más y que más personas corren el riesgo de morir de hambre.
“Los haitianos están al límite: ahora cualquier persona tiene hambre. El aumento del hambre está alimentando la crisis de seguridad que está destrozando este país.
Esta devastadora tormenta, que trajo fuertes vientos, lluvias torrenciales y graves oleajes, dejó a miles de personas sin hogar, derribó árboles y postes del tendido eléctrico, bloqueó las carreteras con escombros e interrumpió el suministro de agua en varias islas del Caribe.
Gaza corre el riesgo de caer en la hambruna si no se restablece urgentemente el acceso a alimentos adecuados, agua potable y servicios de salud y saneamiento. Toda la población -unos 2,2 millones de personas- sufre niveles de inseguridad alimentaria de crisis o peores.
El foro histórico sobre Nutrición, que se celebró el 1 de junio de 2010 en el Campidoglio en el corazón de Roma, es una muestra del compromiso de líderes y expertos mundiales en diferentes disciplinas de unirse para abogar porque la nutrición ocupe el primer lugar de la agenda global con miras a las sesiones del G8 y el G20 que se darán cita en Canadá a finales de este mes.

Ante la incapacidad para producir e importar alimentos, los habitantes de Gaza dependen de la ayuda humanitaria para sobrevivir, si bien esta ayuda no puede por sí sola satisfacer las necesidades básicas de toda la población.
