El sistema de salud se sigue debilitando progresivamente, con consecuencias catastróficas. A 19 de febrero, solamente seguían en funcionamiento, parcialmente, 12 de los 36 hospitales con capacidad de hospitalización. Desde el 7 de octubre se han producido más de 370 ataques contra la atención de salud en la zona.
Las enfermedades proliferan. La hambruna acecha. El agua escasea.
Las personas vulnerables, entre ellas mujeres, niños y ancianos, se llevan la peor parte de un conflicto extremadamente violento en el que decenas de grupos armados se disputan el territorio.
Este informe resume la actividad mensual de la base logística del Programa Mundial de Alimentos (WFP) en Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, España, que opera desde 2012 reforzando la capacidad de preparación y respuesta ante emergencias.

Con el invierno acercándose rápidamente, refugios inseguros y superpoblados y la falta de agua potable, los civiles se enfrentan a la posibilidad inmediata de morir de hambre", dijo Cindy McCain, directora ejecutiva de WFP.
El Premio Nobel de la Paz reconoce a WFP “por sus esfuerzos en la lucha contra el hambre, por su contribución a mejorar las condiciones para la paz en zonas afectadas por conflictos y por actuar como fuerza impulsora en los esfuerzos para prevenir el uso del hambre como arma de guerra y conflicto”.
