NUEVA YORK/GINEBRA/KINSHASA/ROMA – «El 1 de agosto, se cumple un año desde que el Gobierno de la República Democrática del Congo (RDC) declarara un brote del virus del ébola en la provincia de Kivu Norte. Hace dos semanas el brote fue declarado como emergencia de salud pública de interés internacional.
La Directora Ejecutiva de WFP, Ertharin Cousin, le otorgó el premio Héroe contra el Hambre 2017 el martes en la cena de WFP en la reunión anual del Foro Económico Mundial en Davos, Suiza.En los últimos cinco años, Mastercard y WFP han colaborado en una misión ambiciosa: acabar con el hambre.
También participaron en la ceremonia el Vice-Presidente de la República y Ministro de la Presidencia, José Gabriel Carrizo; el Ministro de Relaciones Exteriores, Alejandro Ferrer; la Ministra de Gobierno, Janaina Tewaney Mencomo; el Director Regional del WFP para América Latina y el Caribe, Miguel Barreto; y el Director Senior de Operaciones del WFP, Amer Daoudi.
Uno de cada dos escolares, o 388 millones de niños y niñas en todo el mundo, recibía comidas escolares cuando se produjo la pandemia, el número más alto en la historia, según el informe del Estado de la alimentación escolar en el mundo.
