Las cifras de personas que padecen hambre en el mundo volvieron a aumentar por tercer año consecutivo, según El estado de la alimentación y la nutrición en el mundo 2019, también conocido como el informe SOFI.
Alrededor de 368 millones de niños (en promedio 1 de cada 5 niños) reciben una comida en la escuela todos los días en 169 países desarrollados y en vías de desarrollo.
En América Latina y el Caribe se anticipa habrá un alarmante aumento de 269% en el número de personas en inseguridad alimentaria severa comparado con 2019 - el mayor en términos relativos a nivel global.
Los fondos obtenidos ayudarán al restablecimiento integral de la asistencia alimentaria a los refugiados en Jordania, Líbano, Irak y Egipto, desde marzo hasta finales de año.
La respuesta a gran escala , proporcionando USD $ 1.2 mil millones en asistencia a alrededor de 10 millones de personas en ocho países, ayudó a evitar una catástrofe humanitaria.
El hambre y la malnutrición persisten como desafíos en América Latina y el Caribe. Existen diferentes propuestas acerca de las políticas e intervenciones para hacer frente a esos problemas conjuntamente como región y para cada país.
La contribución, que asciende a 300.000 euros distribuidos equitativamente entre los tres países, contribuirá a mantener el transporte aéreo regular entre las capitales y las zonas que necesitan asistencia humanitaria.
