ROMA – El número de personas que experimentan inseguridad alimentaria aguda y requieren asistencia alimentaria, nutricional y de subsistencia urgente aumentó por cuarto año consecutivo en 2022, con más de 250 millones enfrentando hambre aguda y personas en siete países al borde de la inanición, según a lo último Informe mundial sobre las crisis alimentarias (disponible en inglés).
RIO DE JANEIRO - Alrededor de 733 millones de personas pasaron hambre en 2023, lo que equivale a una de cada 11 personas en el mundo y una de cada cinco en África, según el último Informe sobre El estado de la seguridad alimentaria y la nutrición en el mundo (SOFI) publicado hoy por cinco organismos especializados de las Naciones Unidas.

Alrededor del mundo en 2024, cerca de 309 millones de personas se enfrentarán a niveles agudos de inseguridad alimentaria en los 71 países en que WFP tiene operaciones y hay data disponible.
"A pesar de una situación de seguridad excepcionalmente compleja, WFP está dando los primeros pasos importantes para volver a poner en marcha las cadenas de suministro humanitario y suministrar la ayuda que se necesita desesperadamente a los barrios más difíciles de Puerto Príncipe", declaró Jean-Martin Bauer, director de WFP en Haití.

“Conocí a mujeres, niños y niñas que se aferraban a sus vidas, que tenían que caminar horas para llegar a nuestros puntos de distribución de alimentos. Estos fueron los que estaban lo suficientemente sanos para lograrlo”, dijo Beasley, desde un centro de nutrición en la región.
