"Cierra los ojos, vuelve a tu niñez, atraviesa otra vez el portón de la escuela y corre a la fila del desayuno. ¿Por qué sonríes? ¿Es el olor? ¿Lo calentito del vaso? ¿El sentarte a tomarlo ahí, en el murito, al lado de los mejores amigos?"
Estamos en Falcón, al norte de Venezuela.
El Director General de la FAO, Qu Dongyu, el Presidente del FIDA, Álvaro Lario, y la Directora Ejecutiva del WFP, Cindy McCain, visitaron algunas comunidades que sufren las consecuencias de fenómenos meteorológicos extremos.
Niños que lloran de hambre y mueren de desnutrición. Personas que se arriesgan a ser tiroteadas mientras intentan llegar a los convoyes de ayuda y sobreviven comiendo alimentos para animales y sopa hecha con hojas y pasto.
Una mejor nutrición
El PMA trabaja duro para mejorar el contenido nutricional de los alimentos que ofrece, muchas veces trabaja con asociados del sector privado para crear productos adaptados.
Un grupo de niños y niñas nos miran fijamente, con curiosidad. Ya se han acostumbrado a la presencia del personal del Programa Mundial de Alimentos (WFP) y sus vehículos blancos todo terreno que entran y salen del asentamiento en que viven a las afueras de Kabul.
Solo que esta misión no es para entregar alimentos ni para registrar a nadie.
