Estimada Secretaria de Cooperación Internacional y miembros de la mesa, deseo en primer lugar agradecerles a todos ustedes y a los responsables de la Comisión Ejecutiva Federal el haber organizado este foro.
Este reporte documenta las principales respuestas de asistencia social a la pandemia, implementadas principalmente durante el año 2020, con el objetivo de informar futuras inversiones para un sistema de protección social más reactivo frente a emergencias.
La pandemia de COVID-19 representa un desafío enorme para todos los países debido a sus consecuencias en la salud pública y sus efectos socioeconómicos para las familias. Dentro de este contexto, América Latina y el Caribe enfrenta además el desplazamiento más grande en su historia reciente.

Sheeran, quien asumirá su nuevo cargo en abril al concluir su actual mandato como Directora Ejecutiva, ha dirigido el Programa Mundial de Alimentos desde el 2007, ayudando a víctimas de conflictos y desastres naturales en más de 70 países.
Bruselas – Un informe presentado hoy conjuntamente por la Unión Europea, la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Alimentación y la Agricultura (FAO) y el Programa Mundial de Alimentos de las Naciones Unidas (WFP), concluye que alrededor de 113 millones de personas en 53 países experimentaron inseguridad alimentaria aguda en 2018, en comparación con 124 millones en 2017.
