Se trata de la primera entrega de asistencia humanitaria desde que la frontera se selló en junio e incluye comida proporcionada por el Programa Mundial de Alimentos de las Naciones Unidas (WFP en sus siglas en inglés), pan de la Organización Internacional para las Migraciones (OIM) y kits the higiene de UNICEF.
Niños que lloran de hambre y mueren de desnutrición. Personas que se arriesgan a ser tiroteadas mientras intentan llegar a los convoyes de ayuda y sobreviven comiendo alimentos para animales y sopa hecha con hojas y pasto.
Las comidas incluyen un cartón de leche enriquecida con vitaminas y minerales y una barra de dátiles producida localmente, los cuales proporcionan a los estudiantes el aporte nutritivo necesario para concentrarse y aprender en clase. A través de un socio local, WFP ya ha distribuido comidas escolares a unos 15.000 niños en unas 30 escuelas de Alepo desde que comenzara el programa el pasado 5
El sufrimiento de las personas desnutridas en ciudades asediadas como Madaya, Fouah y Kefraya, ha puesto de relieve la importancia de proporcionar apoyo nutricional a los sirios vulnerables.
