Este documento sintetiza los posibles escenarios a que se enfrenta Perú frente a los impactos provocados por el fenómeno de El Niño, analiza las distintas situaciones de emergencia y plantea cómo WFP puede apoyar al país a afrontar esta eventualidad a partir de las herramientas de asistencia que ha desarrollado.
La pausa de siete días en los combates permitió al Programa Mundial de Alimentos (WFP, por sus siglas en inglés) de las Naciones Unidas y a nuestros socios cierta seguridad para ampliar las operaciones de ayuda.
Alrededor del mundo en 2024, cerca de 309 millones de personas se enfrentarán a niveles agudos de inseguridad alimentaria en los 71 países en que WFP tiene operaciones y hay data disponible.
El sistema de salud se sigue debilitando progresivamente, con consecuencias catastróficas. A 19 de febrero, solamente seguían en funcionamiento, parcialmente, 12 de los 36 hospitales con capacidad de hospitalización. Desde el 7 de octubre se han producido más de 370 ataques contra la atención de salud en la zona.
Las enfermedades proliferan. La hambruna acecha. El agua escasea.
El equipo del Programa Mundial de Alimentos de las Naciones Unidas (WFP, por sus siglas en inglés) se encuentra en el terreno y estamos listos para dar un paso adelante según sea necesario, siempre que se conceda acceso y los recursos estén disponibles.
En medio de los combates que asolan la capital, WFP ha podido llegar a casi 300.000 personas en los diez primeros días de marzo, repartiendo comidas calientes, distribuyendo alimentos, realizando transferencias de dinero por celular y entregando comidas en las escuelas.
