ROMA – El número de personas que experimentan inseguridad alimentaria aguda y requieren asistencia alimentaria, nutricional y de subsistencia urgente aumentó por cuarto año consecutivo en 2022, con más de 250 millones enfrentando hambre aguda y personas en siete países al borde de la inanición, según a lo último Informe mundial sobre las crisis alimentarias (disponible en inglés).

Actualmente, alrededor de 345 millones de personas enfrentan altos niveles de inseguridad alimentaria, según el análisis del Programa Mundial de Alimentos (WFP por sus siglas en inglés), lo que representa un aumento de casi 200 millones desde principios de 2020. De estas personas, 43 millones se encuentran a solo un paso de la hambruna.
Los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS) son 17 puntos de acción para lograr la paz y la prosperidad acordados por los Estados miembros de las Naciones Unidas en 2015. El enfoque principal de WFP es el ODS 2: Hambre Cero.
