Nicaragua es un país de bajos ingresos con déficit de alimentos y uno de los más pobres de América Latina. La agricultura es la principal actividad económica, que aporta el 8,1 % del PIB del país.
“El suministro de alimentos y agua es prácticamente inexistente en Gaza y sólo una fracción de lo que se necesita llega a través de las fronteras. Con el invierno acercándose rápidamente, refugios inseguros y superpoblados y la falta de agua potable, los civiles se enfrentan a la posibilidad inmediata de morir de hambre", dijo Cindy McCain, directora ejecutiva de WFP.
Unos 3,6 millones de haitianos se enfrentan a la inseguridad alimentaria, entre ellos más de 1,5 millones de personas enfrentan una severa inseguridad alimentaria.
Actualmente, alrededor de 345 millones de personas enfrentan altos niveles de inseguridad alimentaria, según el análisis del Programa Mundial de Alimentos (WFP por sus siglas en inglés), lo que representa un aumento de casi 200 millones desde principios de 2020. De estas personas, 43 millones se encuentran a solo un paso de la hambruna.
Según el informe La situación de las mujeres en los sistemas agroalimentarios de 2023 publicado por la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Alimentación y la Agricultura (FAO), si se cerrara la brecha de género en la productividad agrícola y se suprimiera la diferencia salarial existente en los sistemas agroalimentarios, el producto interno mundial aumentaría un 1 % —esto es, casi un millón
Esta evaluación tuvo como objetivo analizar la situación actual de seguridad alimentaria de la población colombiana. Entre octubre y noviembre de 2022, el Programa Mundial de Alimentos completó la evaluación y realizó un total de 8.232 encuestas a hogares, asegurando muestras representativas a nivel departamental ya nivel urbano y rural para el total nacional.
El trabajo es parte de una iniciativa conjunta mayor en la cual participan la Organización Internacional para las Migraciones (OIM), las Agencia de la ONU para los Refugiados (ACNUR) y el Programa Mundial de Alimentos (WFP).
Mientras lee esto, 42,3 millones de personas en todo el mundo se encuentran al borde de la hambruna, mientras los conflictos, el cambio climático y la inestabilidad económica global se juntan para crear crisis de hambre en países de todo el mundo.
Durante toda su vida laboral, Augustin se ha ganado la vida cultivando la fértil tierra del departamento de Artibonite, en el centro de Haití, el granero del país.
Pero cuando llegó la temporada de cosecha el pasado mes de mayo, este arrocero de 42 años se encontró con que unos hombres armados estaban robando la cosecha.
