WFP se está movilizando rápidamente para ampliar la asistencia dentro de Gaza una vez que se garantice el acceso seguro. Nuestra flota de camiones está esperando en el cruce de Rafah, cargados con alimentos destinados a familias en refugios y hogares en toda Gaza, y harina de trigo para que las panaderías reanuden sus operaciones.
Ante la incapacidad para producir e importar alimentos, los habitantes de Gaza dependen de la ayuda humanitaria para sobrevivir, si bien esta ayuda no puede por sí sola satisfacer las necesidades básicas de toda la población.
La situación de la seguridad sigue siendo muy precaria. WFP está considerando lugares en los que el acceso humanitario esté asegurado así como todo lo relacionado con la seguridad, la capacidad y el acceso.
1. Pueblos indígenas
Para mejorar su seguridad y sistemas alimentarios, América Latina y el Caribe tiene mucho que aprender de los pueblos indígenas, poseedores de conocimientos tradicionales, custodios de semillas y protectores de la biodiversidad.

La Director Regional del WFP, Lola Castro, y el Director de Fortalecimiento Territorial del Ministerio de Educación, Javier Medina, firmaron la declaración final del IX Foro Regional de Alimentación Escolar para América Latina y el Caribe, celebrado en Barranquilla, Colombia.

WFP (por sus siglas en inglés) es la organización humanitaria más grande del mundo que se dedica a salvar vidas en situaciones de emergencia y utiliza la asistencia alimentaria para construir la paz.
Los programas de alimentación escolar bien diseñados e implementados sobre la base de una nutrición de origen local tienen un impacto positivo en la nutrición infantil y en la salud, en la asistencia escolar y el aprendizaje, en la productividad e ingresos de los pequeños agricultores, y en la creación de empleo y el desarrollo del sector privado.
