Las personas en las áreas recientemente liberadas sufren de hambre y malnutrición extrema. Los niños, en particular, sufren de una severa malnutrición aguda. Para diciembre de 2016, una respuesta ágil, combinando rápidas intervenciones por aire y carretera, permitió que WFP y sus socios alcanzaran a más de un millón de personas necesitadas, particularmente en áreas de alto riesgo.
Esta evaluación de la seguridad alimentaria en emergencias entre familias que residen en el corredor seco la realizaron el Ministerio de Agricultura, Secretaría de Seguridad Alimentaria y Nutricional, FONAPAZ, OXFAM, el PMA, y Acción contra el Hambre entre octubre y noviembre de 2012.
