“Las mujeres venezolanas somos guerreras, buscamos cómo echar pa’lante”. Escucho esta frase cada vez que hago una entrevista o me siento a conversar con madres, maestras, directoras de escuelas, cocineras.
Greisy Hernández camina con dificultad por el avanzado estado de su embarazo. Tiene 31 años y espera a su tercer bebé. Con casi 40 semanas de embarazo, se encuentra disfrutando de su licencia por maternidad. Pero este día está en la escuela de Educación Especial “Hipólita Bolívar” del estado Falcón, donde labora como docente desde hace cinco años.

Los agricultores, que huyeron debido el conflicto, se han perdido tres temporadas consecutivas de siembra. Como consecuencia, la gente se ha quedado casi sin nada para comer, y la asistencia alimentaria no está cubriendo esa carencia. Solo 400.000 de los 3,2 millones de personas que padecen inseguridad alimentaria grave en Kasai recibieron asistencia en diciembre.
Los significativos déficits de financiación en África del este y África del sur, así como en Oriente Medio, han obligado a reducir las raciones de algunas de las personas más vulnerables del mundo que dependen de los alimentos del WFP para sobrevivir. Solo en África del este, casi tres cuartas partes de los refugiados han visto sus raciones reducidas en hasta un 60%.
La Encuesta sobre seguridad alimentaria y medios de vida del Caribe, realizada conjuntamente por el Programa Mundial de Alimentos de las Naciones Unidas (WFP) y la Comunidad del Caribe (CARICOM), encontró que se estima que el 43 % de la población (o tres millones de personas) padece inseguridad alimentaria en 22 países y territorios.
