Los equipos del Programa Mundial de Alimentos (WFP, por sus siglas en inglés) en el Caribe están evaluando los impactos del huracán Beryl que azotó Jamaica el miércoles por la tarde como un peligroso huracán de categoría 4.
Esta semana, los jefes de Estado y de Gobierno del Caribe y del Pacífico se reunieron con la delegación de WFP –encabezada por su directora ejecutiva, Cindy McCain– para recalcar la necesidad de abordar las amenazas existenciales que enfrentan los estados insulares y aprovechar las oportunidades para desarrollo resiliente y sostenible en la región.

Hemos conducido por una hora desde Coro, la capital del estado Falcón, en donde en julio, después de 46 años, el Programa Mundial de Alimentos (WFP, por sus siglas en inglés) marcó su regreso a Venezuela con un nuevo programa de comidas escolares.
Sudán del Sur se está ahogando y secando al mismo tiempo mientras que la crisis climática se acentúa. Una crisis de inundaciones sin precedentes ha sumergido gran parte del país, mientras que otras localidades están lidiando con una sequía devastadora.
"A pesar de una situación de seguridad excepcionalmente compleja, WFP está dando los primeros pasos importantes para volver a poner en marcha las cadenas de suministro humanitario y suministrar la ayuda que se necesita desesperadamente a los barrios más difíciles de Puerto Príncipe", declaró Jean-Martin Bauer, director de WFP en Haití.

Cuando Ronny comenzó a laborar como enfermero en 2017 jamás imaginó que tres años más tarde quedaría desempleado y menos en medio de una pandemia. “Pensé que con la pandemia encontraría trabajo más fácil porque estaban buscando enfermeros, pero lamentablemente no fue así”, explicó.
