“Necesitamos que se nos permita llevar estos alimentos a Gaza para su distribución inmediata. Y no sólo una vez. Necesitamos un acceso sostenido. La situación allí es catastrófica y nuestras reservas se están agotando.

Desde el lanzamiento de la iniciativa de efectivo la pasada semana – una alternativa eficiente frente al apoyo en especie que permite a los beneficiarios comprar lo que deseen en mercados locales reactivados – 38.000 personas han recibido el equivalente a 15 dólares cada una para un mes, importe suficiente para cubrir sus necesidades básicas de alimento.
Aunque se ha avanzado en la acción colectiva para hacer frente a la inseguridad alimentaria, la evaluación realizada a finales de 2023 revela que la mitad de los hogares colombianos se encuentran en una situación de seguridad alimentaria marginal y podrían caer en inseguridad alimentaria por factores coyunturales, entre ellos el fenómeno de El Niño y de La Niña que generan variaciones en los cauce
A pesar de los esfuerzos por priorizar las compras de alimentos de productores locales, WFP está preocupado de que sus reservas de alimentos corran el riesgo de agotarse para finales de abril. WFP solo tiene suficiente comida en el país para alimentar a 175,000 personas durante un mes.
